The overall rationale for regional economic development areas (REDAs) is that greater benefits can be obtained through sub-regional cooperation than would be possible through independent action. Development triangle is one type of sub-regional cooperation usually among three countries. To understand the desire to create a development triangle, specific rationales are discussed below in terms of economic, political, and social justifications.
